Using File Manager to locate stuff

So....with my big desktop computer....I know where to go and find folders. But, not so easy with my Android....because it's so new to me.

Can you tell me what steps I would have to follow by using File Manager to locate my SD Card? (external and internal)

Also, are there a couple of popular folders where most of the stuff is stored? For example a "Documents folder" or a "Downloads" folder? Any heavily used folders that I could create a shortcut to? How can I find them with File Manager?

Thank you

Just play around with the file manager, look in various various folders, pay attention to names, etc. After a while you will get the hang of things just like you did with your desktop.

The internal SD card is called sdcard or sdcard0 or similar (I believe it varies phone to phone). The external SD card is usually extSDcard. (Of course, if you had told us what phone, carrier, and Android version somebody with one might be answering.)

Cameras usually place photos in a folder called DCIM (as do most digital cameras).

Best thing to do is what I did...have a look around using your PC (because that's what is comfortable). After that it should be easier to use a file explorer on the device.

BTW, it seems to me (small sample size warning) that the "My Files" app on Samsung devices initially displays the two SD cards. IMO, a good setup from Samsung. Most of the time that's exactly what I need.
