Help Using Gmail app....

I use the Gmail app on my s6 to access my emails from my virgin media account. I have it set up as Imap as although I mainly use my phone for access and managing the emails, I use my laptop to file them through MS Outlook.
At the moment all emails are being delivered to both locations. Which is great. However when I delete an email from my phone, I'd like it to be deleted from the server so that when I launch Outlook on the laptop, only those emails I'm interested in are downloaded. At the minute ute when I delete from the phone those deleted messages are still being downloaded on the laptop.
I've tried to look for a setting when setting up the email account that "deletes from server" but I can't find it.
Can anyone help?

Setting 'Deletes from server' is usually found in POP3 options of email clients. That's why you're not finding it.

This is an odd problem.

Default behavior for Gmail accounts is email deletion is actually a 2-step process. When you trash an email, it goes to the Trash folder. It is not yet gone from the server. To actually delete email from the server, you must delete email from the Trash folder, or just let be automatically deleted after 30 days.

Movement of mail to Trash and ultimately, deletion from the server, syncs to all devices and computers. And that's where things are going wrong for you. As above, when you delete email on your phone, (send it to Trash) that should be synced to Outlook on your laptop.

IOW, those emails deleted on the phone should sync to Trash in Outlook, not show up in the Inbox. Outlook can't put mail in the Inbox that isn't there.

Just to be clear about what's happening, if you delete mail in Gmail on the phone, do those changes then show up if you check Gmail online?

I'm betting that deletions done on the phone will not show up if you check online. Apparently the Gmail app on the S6 is somehow not communicating properly with the Gmail server about what messages are read.

I have seen a lot of posts from Samsung owners having email problems. Maybe another email client will help. K-9, Type Mail, MailDroid, Cloud Magic, My Mail, etc etc. Our trry my favorite, AquaMail.
