Using last upgrade?

I have one last upgrade I am thinking of using before the share everything plans kick in. A couple of questions:

1) If I buy a phone with the upgrade, must I activate it or can I resell it sealed and never take my old phone off? I like my current phone and don't want to mess with activiting a new phone only to then reactivate the old one and the possible headaches that come with that.

2) Is there any contractual, legal, ethical reason I can't use the upgrade just to turn around and sell the phone at a discount from full price but more than I paid?

Thanks,

1) You must activate it, but you can do this while the phone remains in the box, unopened. You can call a CSR to help you, to avoid headaches... (If a CSR gives you a hard time about not opening the box (which they shouldn't, see below) you could tell them its a gift and you don't want to open the box, and its not time to give it yet ;) )

2) As long as you buy direct from Verizon, there is no reason you can't buy a phone just to sell it right away. (If you use a 3rd party vendor, some of them DO have restrictions on keeping a phone on a plan, so read the Terms & Conditions carefully, or just be safe and go with Verizon).

What's the likelihood I lose my unlimited data or need a new Sim card for reactivation of my current phone, requiring a trip to the store? Basically, I am afraid it's going to be a bigger headache then it's worth. When I activated my current phone, I know they told me that you need a new SIM everytime it's reactivated as the SIMs can only be activated one time. Have they changed that rule?

Odd. When I went from my TBolt to my Droid 3 (4G > 3G) there was a recorded message stating that if I wanted to go back to my 4G phone I'd have to reactivate it online. It didn't mention anything about having to get a new SIM.

I read somewhere on the Verizon site recently (can't find it again, but it was in a customer support area) that if you switch from 4G to 3G and then switch back before midnight, that your SIM card will still be good to go. It turns into a pumpkin or something at midnight. Don't know if that's midnight local or eastern time.

I too remember something along those lines. And it was Midnight Eastern Standard Time. :smokingsomb:

EST or 9 PM PST.

So does this mean I will need a new SIM for my current phone if I switch to the new phone for an upgrade and the switch back immediatley or am ok if its done before midnight?
I think the problem with the SIM not working after midnight is only if you're going from a 4G to 3G phone and then back. If your current phone has a sim it's not 4G. Or I could be all wet.

I was considering switching back to my Tbolt from my Galaxy Nexus and was told I would need to get a new sim card for the Tbolt.
