Root Using NVFlash to backup and restore an ROM

Hello All,

I have been playing around with trying various ROM's and seem to always come back to my favourite ROM to date GTabComb. Getting back to my ROM with all my apps and my desktop setup the way I want is a pain even with Titanium Backup. It takes too long. I searched the forums and did not find any easier way of doing it.

I recently started getting into NVFlash and have wondered if it can be used as a means to capture a snapshot of a GTablet as it currently is setup and then restore that setup if necessary. I been able to get the system backed up by using P00r's Rev 2 script. The challenge has been in restoring the images. I have taken bekit/roebeet's gtablet.cfg from the standard 3588 setup and have modified the sizes of the APP and CAC partitions to match my partions from the partition.txt file that was generated during the backup. Everything looks like it restores perfectly.

The problem I am having is that the device will not boot up it hangs at the android logo. I have tried wiping the Dalvik cache and the regular cache and it still hangs up.

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas please let me know.
 
why not make a backup in clockwork recovery? this will take a complete snapshot of your system at any given time and let you restore it with apps, data, homescreen setup, etc. in tact. a CW backup will allow you to play around with other ROMs as much as you would like, but still come back to your favorite set-up of gtabcomb almost instantly.

to backup/restore if you DO already have clockwork:
-reboot into recovery by powering down, then holding volume + and the power button at the same time until you see "recovery key detected" on the screen
-select "backup and restore"
-select "backup" to save a complete system image or "restore" to reload a previously created backup


this would certainly be easier than trying to use NVflash.

You are correct it does and I do use it. The problem is that in some cases I have "soft" bricked my tablet when experimenting with ROM's and other tools. I end up having to go back to NVFlash install the stock 3588 ROOM, add CWM to the boot partition, and then apply the backup from CWM.

I would be nice to have a one step process to do this right from NVFlash and eliminate the other steps and the time it takes.
