Using Open wifi on android

When I connect to open wifi on my android device it shows I'm connected but when trying to use apps or the internet nothing connects. I have this problem with various devices I have purchased on different networks in the UK and wifi only tablets I use also. Is there a security feature I need to turn off

Or you are connected to the router but don't have a connection to the wider internet.

We'd need more information to figure this out - really the best bet would be if you registered so that we could ask you questions. There's no special feature which has to be set to connect to open WiFi generally, so my guess is it might be related to the particular WiFi you are using, but not knowing anything about the networks you are trying to connect to, your devices or your devices' settings I can't really do much.
