Using own ringtones / Notifications

I know that to use my own ringtone it need to be in Media files, that's fine, I can do that! But I cut a song using a droid app to make a 10 sec notification tone, it's stored in the media file, when I click on sounds to check what tone I have it comes up with the tone I want ( After cutting it I set is as notification tone) and it's got the green dot next to it, but then when I get a txt or notification, it still uses one of it's own tones that I had originally set.

Any ideas?
Also my mp3 ringtone has vanished from the media file, I can't find it, but then it still uses it as a ringtone!
