I will be in italy for several weeks. Will my phone work there, or even at the airport in case a problem with connecting flights. Motorolal droid and android version 2.2.3

That depends on your phone, whether its a GSM SIM phone or not and which frequencies it uses and whether you have a roaming contact that covers Italy. We dont know where you are so its very hard to comment. Perhaps post again with relevant details and we should be able to help.
