Help Using phone service through Wi-Fi?

OrKo

Android Expert
Hey guys my girl won a trip for two to Australia, now we're looking at what it would cost to use our AT&T service there and let's just say it's ridiculous. Now I've heard there's a way to use the phone (calls) while connected to Wi-Fi, could someone here point me I'm the right direction?

Thanks OrKo

Skype. Vonage. Depending on how many calls you're talking about, one or the other would be cheaper.

(BTW, I'm jealous.)

Yea there's always Skype and other face to face apps, but what I've heard of (and it may require root which I have) is maybe it's an app that allows your phone to generate a phone number and make out going and receiving phone calls as long as your on a Wi-Fi source.

And thanks, we've been getting that a lot. Especially from family lol

I tried that, couldn't get it to stop force closing during the initial setup. I reinstalled tango and it work pretty well, I'll probably just go with that. Thanks for the advice though guys.

Is there a way you could get a pre-pay SIM from a local carrier down there/under (dumb joke :o)?
Both Telstra and Vodafone should work fine with your G2.

What about Bolt or Viber? Or do these cost if the recipient isn't running those?

I suppose I'd just use something like Whatsapp to send picture and text messages, or email. Who talks on the phone these days anyways?:D

Straight talk international. Is $60 a month unlimited, you can buy a micro SIM for your at&t phone and get the SIM for $6 use it while your there, as long as they have service there anyway,
