Help Using phone when USB Charging?

Apologies if this is a dumb question ...

When I connect my Apollo to the works computer by USB cable to charge it, the phone displays a "USB connected" screen, and then goes into standby mode. It lets me unlock the screen, but returns to the "USB connected" message.

Is it not possible to use the phone when USB charging (on a non-Kies computer)? What happens if somebody texts me or phones me, do I have to disconnect first?

Have you tried pressing the home button?

When I connect my phone it still allows me to use it.

Pressing any of the buttons has no effect. It insists on that full-screen message "USB charging". Oh well.

I don't know if there's any way to fully use the phone while USB charging. But I know it will still receive incoming calls and text messages.

Thanks for this. The situation hasn't come up yet, I just wanted reassurance that if I were called while it was charging, the call would come through.

Maybe it's cause I switched home launchers that I'm able to close that USB charging menu. I know if you're using the default TouchWiz home launcher it will stay up no matter what.
