Using S7 sim card in S8

I got my new GS8+ yesterday. I took it to Verizon store to activate. They took ther old sim card out of my GS7 and put is in my new GS8+ and called that activating it.

Is this OK? Is there any new tech in the new sim card I will be missing by doing this?

Nah, sims haven't changed much for years now. Besides, VZW only uses the sim to access LTE data, they are still primarily CDMA for calls and texts.

Haha! Activation my A55. Your SIM was still 'activated' and they just switched it. The SIM contains your subscriber information with your phone #.

Actually, Verizon (and Sprint ... and all their associated mnvo's) do have to activate any new device by the esn. The sim card is only for LTE access.

Correct! I wasn't specific enough in my previous response.

This IS something you can do on your own when your SIM has already been in a prior 'activated' phone with your subscriber account info on it vs a blank SIM. Anyone can just slip a previously active SIM into a new phone, call a # on their website and follow the prompt's to get the ESN of the new phone onboard.
