Using the Eris with Car Blue tooth (mini)

Hi all

I have a 09 mini cooper with built in blue tooth. It worked GREAT with my motorola Razr3m but on my eris it is driving me crazy.

The phone paired initially just fine. Address book was in sync and it sounded ok. But after a few days the phone would just unpair after driving down the road a bit. For no reason I can see and it would happen whether I was on the phone or not.

Now it is getting worse. I called verizon and we did a master reset. Today it disconnected twice on my way into work. I got it to reconnect once but now I can't get them to see each other at all.

So is anyone else using their eris on a car blue tooth? Does it work? Is anyone using it with a Mini.

I am trying to figure out if I should return the phone for a new one or just give up entirely. This is the MOST important feature I need in a phone and if it doesn't work it is useless. I like the eris but this is driving me nuts.
 
The MINI bluetooth ULF is a very poor implementation. I had an '08 S with nav and bluetooth. I paired my Palm Treo 755p with it, and it worked perfectly, for about a week. Then the same symptoms that you described began to happen to mine. Even though BMW owns MINI, MINI's use different bluetooth modules and stacks than BMW uses.

Ultimately, mine stopped working totally. I took it to the dealer, and was told that the MINI's bluetooth module had been corrupted by the Palm. It seems that it would constantly load the phonebook, over and over, until its memory had been filled, and corrupted. I was told that the ULF module could not be repaired, and it was replaced under warranty...with a warning that if I paired another "unapproved" phone, and it toasted the ULF module, that it would NOT be covered under warranty. Thanks for a very informative response. I will take it to the dealer and find out but this is extremely disappointing. I have been seriously considering a iphone but the At&T network concerns me. But I live in the SF Bay area and if it is good enough I may try it. My Verizon contract would be up in February if I return the phone.

My pleasure. I am pretty new to the Android platform, but there must be a way to replace the ERIS's bluetooth stack with one that is compatible with more bluetooth car kits.

I am using mine in an '08 ML320 CDI, and it works well, but the phonebook does not transfer. I have found the iPhone's bluetooth stack to be the most universally compatible, unfortunately though, you are forced to be on AT&T antique network.

Do you think it is the Eris stack or the Mini's implementation? I have an email into HTC with the hope of a response. Verizon's stand is that they don't provide any support for auto blue tooth due to different implementations. I suspect Mini will tell me it is not supported like they told you.

Jim, unfortunately, MINI will tell you nothing, other than that the Eris is not on the "Approved" list. MINI, as most manufacturers, seem to regard Bluetooth
 
Just to update this. I gave up on the Eris and got the Droid. No issues on the bluetooth in the car and that is job one for my phone.

In truth I think the Droid is a better phone all around. Quicker on apps and browsing and in spite of the lack of dedicated call and end keys an easier to use phone. But I will miss the nice compact size and feel of the Eris. The Droid is a damn brick. The Home++ app is easing the transition.
