Help Using the Maps to find addresses

I think having maps on a phone is pretty cool, although, on my Galaxy Ace, it takes forever to locate me when I have GPS enabled, and it won't let me search the map for places until it has found me. All I get is waiting for location.

Is there a way I can get it to let me search the map for places without gps turned on?

It would be handy at work, in the office I deal with deliveries to different addresses and it would be ideal if, I didn't recognise an address, to be able to search on the phone for it.

Thanks all

I use maps quite a lot whilst at work with no problem, and only switch on gps if i need directions, which is rare as I also use a Sat-nav.

I can recomend the Post Office app, very good at resolving address and postcode issues.
