using wifi abroad

I'm with tmobile and I'm going to ibiza shortly for 2 weeks and as I'm rooted what would happen if I switched barnacle on and turned my phone into a wifi hotspot. if I did this then use another phone through the wifi how would this affect roaming charges etc. I have to send a couple of texts to let people know we arrived ok that sort of thing. would i be able to use wifi to check email with my itouch or would I be charged for that.

Make sure your data is turned off in the settings and you will be fine. Might be worth a quick call to t-mobile just to confirm that there are no extra charges.
 
I've found out the hotel has wifi and it's 15euros a week. Tried switching on barnacle but it wouldn't start, using my itouch at the moment to keep in touch with email etc. Have been keeping phone on airplane mode and all syncs turned off (just using music player whilst sunbathing and camera) will need to check data switched off on phone

With your phone in Airplane mode no data will be charged. There is a way to still use your Sony wifi in airplane mode, an app called airplane mode wifi allows you to. And 100% no data charge thru the phone
 
Barnacle takes a 3G connection and distributes it through wifi for your other devices. Why don't you just connect those devices to the wifi connection? You don't need barnacle, don't even need a phone to do that.
 
I took my X10 overseas and had "Roaming Data" turned off only. I used the hotel's WiFi and did not get any extra roaming data charges. Same as I have done with all WiFi enabled phones.

got everything thing turned off and using hotel wifi. costly cause its 30 quid for the fortnight but I'm using it and so is the wife. updated my apps the other day and 3g watchdog tells me i've used sod all of my allowance. great. I'm sure if I was using tmobile it would cost more than I'm paying the hotel. I need to keep up to date with email and work
