Help Using wifi without data plan?

Hi all,

At the risk of sounding totally stupid I would just like to clarify something.
I have a Sony Xperia X10i being delivered to me in a couple of days &
want to just use my simcard for calls, & wifi for Internet access.
What I need to know is if this can be done without a data plan from my
network provider (Vodafone) or not?
I really have no use for a data plan as the vast majority of the time I'm in
a free wifi zone at work or at home.
If this is possible are there any settings I should change to ensure I don't
get hefty charges added to my 'phone bill for inadvertent use.

Many Thanks

SW

Just uncheck the box next to Data enabled (or something to that effect) under Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks and unless you re-check that box, there shouldn't be any data usage (3G) by your phone.

I don't know about Vodafone's policies but you could talk to them about having just a 'regular' plan without data and see what they have to say about it.

yes, under your settings-wireless and networks-mobile networks, unclick allow data traffic, and go into apn names and delete any providers you find there.
