Help Valet screen "flashing"

Running this app once (it's a ZTE app) just might help...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.zte.ProximeitySensorClib

Thanks bummpr....I installed this app and ran the calibration. Hopefully this will help the intermittent blank screen when placing calls.

Update.....the app didn't fix the problem until I held the phone to my ear during the calibration process. Now the screen stays on so I can check my home phone for messages and also disconnect after leaving a voicemail for someone.

Bilbo,
I don't want to bring up a dead issue, but I was wondering whether you tried the calibration app that Bummpr recommended to us? I was thinking that you might be able to cover the entire glass face of your phone with the protector if you used that app after you put it on. Just a thought.
Hi StLouisMan2,
Since I uncovered the sensor, I've had no problems with this phone...(Other than the constant tendency to update it's apps).
Thanks but It's not important to me that the protector covers the entire face glass. I put the protector on to protect from finger marks and scratches of course and I don't touch up there where the sensor is located.
I can speak highly of it's qualities that I use: hand's free calling with my Ford Sync system. It's a big improvement over the LG 420G that I was previously using in connectivity, voice and signal strength. The Wi-fi is a nice feature as is the ability to turn it off.
I do wish that the camera was a tad better and it had a compass feature but ya get what ya pay for :-D

BTW, I purchased my ZTE Valet in Feb. at Radio Shack when they had it for $49.99. I told the salesman that I didn't want the 1 year insurance for $8.99, but he kept insisting and gave me that look and said "you really should get this"! He said for 1 year if anything happens to the phone or if I don't like it, I can exchange it for another phone. He stated that I might drop the phone, it might get wet or lost....or for any other reason, they will cover it.
So, for $8.99, I went ahead a purchased the 1 year coverage so we'll see if I need it until Feb. 2015.

I hate when they keep bugging you to buy there protection plan. Problem is you have to send it to there warehouse and if they find any problems then the will hove you a store credit, if no problem you are stuck with the phone. Also if you do not have all the parts with you they don't even accept it.

This topic is probably old and dead by now, but I was successful today (8/6/15) in making my $30 ZTE Valet Z665C phone stop going black permanently during calls (or flash in a strange manner). It seems that there was once a google play app to fix this problem, now long gone. The reason I think is that the app is now built into the phone. So here is the fix that worked for me. (1) In the normal phone dialer app enter *ZTE*OPENEM# and just wait till it says "engineering mode" or some such. Don't hit the "call" button, it will recognize these codes internally (2) Then enter*ZTE*0# (that's a zero not an oh) and get the diagnostics menu (all very interesting). (3) select the sensor diagnostic, where there is a button to recalibrate the proximity sensor. (4) When done, do *ZTE*CLOSEEM# to make sure you don't accidentally enter some screwy code to mess up your phone. It will say "engineering mode disabled". Numerically those codes are *983*673636#, *983*0# and the close one is *983*2567336#. There are very many other codes, you can find them online. If you play with the light sensor and proximity sensor diagnostic, you will find the exact location of these two sensors. I think the oval you see through the glass is the light sensor, and the prox one is some kind of hidden loop a little higher up above the earpiece slot. I suspect all phones have such internal diagnostics, but I am a non-expert and only conjecture that is the case.
