Help vcamcorder / Video Settings

I record stuff using the camcorder on My HTC Desire HD and transfer them to my computer

It used to come up on my computer as mpeg-4 player which I could view mainly with sml player but recently it has started to appear as 3GPP movie which will not play

Is there a way of selecting the format it uses and / or is there a reliable 3GPP player

LG Camera allows you to switch between MP4 and 3GP iirc. It totally destroys my battery though.

Alternatively, VLC will play pretty much any video format you can throw at it.
