Velocity Cruz Tablet

Below is an email from a Velocity employee answering a few questions that I had...

Hello,

The Tablet is actually being released with 2.0 and there are no future plans (at this time) to upgrade past that.

In regards to releasing the Source Code it is something that we are working on and preparing to do.

Thanks,

Howzit every1,

Dunno if this is what you are looking 4 but here goes :)

But archos is comming out with a 4,3 inch 1ghz cpu tablet for 200 dollars, also capable of open gl 2.0.....hectic!!

but no multi touch though :(

now that its been confirmed that its stuck at 2.0 i have no idea who this would be aimed at OTHER than the typical hi-brow borders customer who will be intrigued by the "tech" and not do their research
I can tell you that at the Borders in the "little" town near me their staff knows NOTHING about the android tabs and are REALLY pushing folks to the e-readers

So, I understand VelocityMicro's plan on this. It's disappointing, but can live with it. The Cruz was really intended as a test-pilot for me. My next tablet will require a better upgrade policy, similar to urm.....the apple products.

The fact that VM has no plans for one doesn't necessarily mean it can't be done, does it? like the days of the early linux distributions, all that was required was sufficient level of community geeks interested in doing the upgrade themselves. Has any heard either (1) there are technical obstacles preventing an upgrade port, and (2) any activity in this regard for Cruz tablets that we could help?
