I use the same as screen method: open app drawer and long press app icon, drag to dock (as long as you have set the dock to have enough room for another app icon in Nova dock settings).
Have fun with Nova MsL!!! The only launcher I have found that is smoother that I like more is the JB 4.2.2 launcher included in Carbon's newest release.
