Root [Verizon] Camera not working on Carbon 1.7

Lurker
I finally decided to root and rom my sg3. I have done this on other phones so I'm not totally new but I am in no way an expert either. I read up a lot and thought Carbon's 1.7 version of android 4.2.2 looked like a good fit for me. I was able to root it just fine without any issues. I also went through the entire process of putting the rom on the phone and everything seemed to work fine except whenever i open the camera, it shows the 3 icons on the bottom with an otherwise black screen then it gives me an error and force closes.
I used customrecovery, the Carbon 1.7 zip and gapps version 20130301 which i found here: Goo.im Downloads - Browsing gapps

What I am hoping is there is an additional app I can install to make my camera work or if i need to flash it again a different way or with a different package that is no big deal either. Even knowing this is a known problem would be great because unfortunately its a necessity for me and suggested other roms would be appreciated.

Which radios do you have? The MD3 radios will cause the camera to crash on all CM based ROMS, including Carbon. No known fix yet. Just find the .Mb1 radio file that includes the.tiz file and flash it.

Problem solved.

So far no luck but i dont think i am doing this correctly. I downloaded the firmware from the below link, restarted into cm recovery and installed the zip from my sd card. I rebooted and the baseband didnt seem to change. I could not find any odin files for me to use instead so i tried vrlg1 just to test it. Looks like that changed the baseband. Are there any other steps I missed?

I am using ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.2.3. Below are the results which look like they work, but again, there is no change to the baseband.
Installing: /external_sd/root/modem - vrbmb1.rpm.zip
finding update package...
opening update package...
installing update...
d2vzw vrbmb1 rpm
sha1 sum success! flashing...!
done!

install from sdcard complete.

Ok, well I realized the file i downloaded wasnt the full modem. I downloaded and installed the correct one. It changed the baseband but still did not fix my initial problem of the camera not working so i guess i am back to step one. any other ideas?

I, personally would reflash the rom and gapps (fresh download).

And I say that because you have just flashed it, and the camera does not work. So can I assume you don't have much, if anything, set up the way you like?

Double check the md5 of the rom and gapps download, and wipe/flash a fresh download.
:)

Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I ended up formatting pretty much the whole internal storage, data everything which i didnt do the first time. Then i installed the newer nightly version of carbon and it worked fine. So not sure if it was 1.7 or just that i didnt clear everything which caused an issue.

Hi, so I'm not an expert what so ever but I experienced that same problem. The only difference is that I rooted using the stock Jelly Bean for Verizon. What I think happened is that I changed the Build Prop to make it look like I was running a Nexus on Sprint. So I changed that back to show that it was an S3 on VZW. Then I just reloaded the Bootloader and I was back in business. I hope this helps! :)

Memnok - what nightly did you install? I had tried Carbon 1.6 & 1.7 and CM 10.1 and I was experiencing both random reboots - camera, video recording and pkayback, and Facebook - and camera issues. I finally gave up and went to a tw rom instead. No problems since. I've been told that aosp roms are just not made for the s3. I'm scratching my head. Every aosp rom has had troubles. Thoughts anyone?

Funny thing. I started with the 6/14 ROM and haven't had a problem since. I updated nightlies every few days and never had any problems. I'm now on Carbon 1.8 and my phone continues to do well. I'm not knocking it. The only real issue I have is the Bluetooth randomly disconnects when connected to my car. I've since read its a pretty common AOSP ROM issue. I can live with it. Looking forward to android 4.3.3.

Yeah, I have random BT disconnects with my Pebble even if it's within a couple feet of my phone and I'm running an AOSP ROM. A little frustrating, but it usually reconnects in a moment or two.
