[Verizon] Change the signal meter in a BAMF ROM?

I was wondering how one would change their signal meter. I'm running the BAMF ROM, but I'm really just looking for a mod that could work in any ROM. I really want more than four signal bars, six would be ideal. I've seen Galaxy Nexus screen shots with more than four signal bars, so I know it's possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

check out the example mod in this thread, you should be able to modify the signal PNG files included in BAMF to your liking using ZipThemer from google play (but be sure to do a backup first)

Thank you. I may try this out tomorrow, but for now, I'm whipped. I'm going to bed. If I get it working the way I want, I'll post some screen shots for anyone who may be interested in the same thing. I hate the way signals are measured in ICS and JB, I need some more accurate measurements.

I'm a little confused. I've never done anything like this, and some guidance would be appreciated.

read this thread (especially the first post), and download any one of the mods in the first post. this will be your template for creating your own mod. you will update the graphic files included in this template to your liking, you do not have to touch the XML file.

open the file (it's just a zip) and drill down to /systemui/res/drawable-xhdpi/

you'll see a set of PNG files with the status bar icons shown in the first post. you will want to edit these PNG files to your liking or replace them with equivalent sized PNGs of your own. place the modified zip on your sdcard. i use paint.net for graphics editing.

you might want to check the same directory within your systemui.apk file (/sdcard/system/app) to make sure whatever status bar icon you want to change has the same file name as the file you place in the modified zip above. just copy this file to your computer and change the extension to .zip, then open and drill down to /systemui/res/drawable-xhdpi/.

download ZipThemer from the market. follow the instructions in the first post of above thread to update "edify" and build a flashable update zip using your modified zip file. make sure you select "yes" when prompted to make an undo file. this will create two new zip files on your sdcard, both will start with your zip file name, one will have "update" and the other will have "undo" appended to the end.

reboot into recovery (i use clockwork mod). MAKE A BACKUP!

did you make a backup? if you did, then flash ("install from sdcard") the "update" file from above.

reboot. if you you run into problems on reboot (i.e., lots of FCs), then just reboot into recovery again and flash the "undo" file. if that doesn't fix the problem, then just restore your backup and you'll be back where you started.

please make a backup from recovery before you flash anything and don't blame me if something goes wrong :).

Alright, I've started looking in to this. Lately I haven't had much time to do what I want, so with my first available free time, I'm working on this. I've downloaded one of the mods from the post and dug around inside. I'm going to try my best to do some serious work on it. If I need any help, could you walk me through some stuff?

Edit: So, I've already ran into a problem. I thought the xml file would include more details, but it seems like it doesn't. I would like to create two more png files for a fifth signal bar, and edit the others to include it as well. To do that, I'm guessing I'm going to have to edit which files are displayed according to the signal strength, if that makes sense. I don't know where I would go to edit said files.

ok, now I understand what you're trying to do... editing the xml file in this mod will not do what you want and I have no idea how to do what you want. All this mod will do is support swapping out the existing traffic icons for new ones, it won't give you the ability to add additional granularity to the signal level reporting. sorry.

question: does BAMF give you the option to replace the signal bars icon with the signal level in dBm? AOKP has that option and I use it a lot.

No, BAMF doesn't give me that option. I thought it did, but i must remember that from a previous ROM that I had installed. I've seen some themes that have more than four signal bars, but I never seem to like the coloring of them, and I would rather keep what I have now anyways.
