Root [Verizon] Custom Kernel for Synergy Rom

backroad

Newbie
I'm presently running Synergy R66 (Nightly). I thought I had read somewhere that it includes a custom kernel. If it does I haven't found any way to tweak it (I'm in particular need of some extra battery time so I'm willing to underclock a bit).

Does Synergy include this customization? If so, how do you access it? If not, what Kernels that work with Synergo do?

On a related note, is there a expected date for a Jelly Bean version of Synergy?

You did read it right. Your version has ziggy's custom kernal. However, there has been an update to it in revision 71 and there's another update to it coming in revision 72.

As artman540 referenced for you, SetCPU is a very popular app to give you control over the settings. Your kernal is currently running at 1.9 GHz, but set CPU will allow you to bring it down or set the resting rate lower.

You're probably running at a default "performance" setting on the CPU Governor, or maybe ziggy's "smarta**V2" governor, which will set all settings on the high side. By settings things lower, including the resting rate, it will help with battery life.

I've got my Max frequency set at 1458 MHz and the Min frequency set at 384 MHz with the governor set as "OnDemand." I also tried 1 GHz as the Max frequency, but it gave me the feeling of my old Thunderbolt with some minor scrolling pauses.

SetCPU is an app with a cost. It's not much, but there is a small amount to pay in the Google Play Store (still think that's a dumb name).

There are other ones on the market, too. One that comes to mind is called Voltage Control. It's a free app. I've found that it works fine with revision 71 of Synergy 1.7. It might be something you want to try.
