[Verizon] Custom Kernel!

so ive been reading a few on some custom kernels for the gnex and ive seen a few. mostly been looking for better battery life and i think lean kernel is whats best. but i have never flashed a kernel before or even know how to use it. anyone willing to lend some help?

Kernels are fun. I use lean kernel personally. Know that your nexus may not like certain kernels. It's the way it is.

That said, kernels are easy.

Download to phone.
Boot into recovery.
Wipe cache and Dalvik cache.
Flash kernel.
Reboot!
 
sweet. are you running any special settings or did you just flash and forget? i haven't messed with anything yet
 
Kernels for the most part are flash and forget. You can kernel control app (I would highly recommend TricksterMod), as this lets you control kernel features such as governor, CPU speeds, color control (my favorite feature of kernels), and other options.

But in my experience, settings like governor, CPU speeds, etc... don't really affect battery life too much. It's the kernel in general, so I would suggest flashing one, let it settle for a couple days (highly recommended), and if you're not impressed, flash a new one. Everyone's phone is different, so while Franco works for a lot of people, it's terrible on my phone. I use LeanKernel religiously =)

I'd like to add the above to my esteemed colleague's list. I always make a backup when flashing anything. You just never know sometimes.

And x2 on the TricksterMod app. You can get it in the play store or perhaps 'google' it and find the app developer's thread. Just note that it is not compatible with all custom kernels.
