Verizon did it..

So my Droid X had an auto update today and I lost my rooted phone. I spent the afternoon trying to figure out how to re-root it and finally did. Accessed one of my favorite apps... wireless tether and it wouldn't work if encripted. So I unchecked the "encript" box and it connected to the internet... when I tested the connection by going to google... it redirected me to the verizon home page where they tell you all about their great tethering service.

Try a different app, check out the bionic or D3 forum, I know VZW was blocking them from tethering, they may have a link to an app that would work somewhere in there.

This is why you

a.) Turn off auto-updates

and

b.) Run a custom ROM they can't mess with.

If you have root/S-Off, just revert to a nandroid backup if you have one.

Why does Verizon charge the most to treat their customers the worst? I guess because they can.
