Root [Verizon] Disable update (4.1.2)

qetuop

Newbie
Does anyone know how to disable the OTA updates? My phone is working fine with 4.1.1 and I'm afraid verizon will try to sneak in some 'fix' to mess with the ability to root the phone.

I would like to delete any downloaded update files, remove any notifications to update, and/or any processes that check for updates.

Are you on a custom rom?
Do you have a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP?
If so, no need to worry about the updates happening without your knowledge as updates will not install with a custom recovery.
And custom roms usually have something in them that disables the "check for updates".

From what I understand, it will fail to install.
Also, if I remember correctly there is a change you can make in the /system so that it will not scan for updates seeing as you still are on the stock rom. Albeit rooted.
I can't remember where I saw that thread/post about tho:p

Yeah, I read stuff about the SDM.apk file but never specifically for the Verizon S3. I'm always hesitant to just start making changes until others have verified it. I know enough about computers to be able to screw them up but not be able to fix them. :(

You can always flash a custom rom like CleanRom and don't have to worry about it
But that rom is one of many :)
And there are other custom roms that have some of the 4.1.2 upgrades baked in.

I keep meaning to mess around with custom roms but never find the time. That and I'm always afraid of bricking my phone (hard bricking it or whatever it's called now). The guides for flashing roms have gotten pretty good about walking you through the process though.

I do think I'll try this in regards to stopping updates/checks

I think that is what I read about although not on that site.
Interesting though:)
Not that I think it would fudge anything, just make a nandroid backup just in case. :D
