Root [Verizon] GMail App wipes Contact names

Verizon has not been able to help me with this, I hope one of you can...please!

gmail app seems to wipe out my contact names. Just leaving the phone numbers with no names. Everyday, sometimes twice a day, I have to go into Settings-Application Manager-gmail & Google - clear data, then reboot the phone and the contact names come back. VERY annoying.

- All my contacts are in gmail
- I have had Verizon completely replace the phone and it happened again after about 3 weeks.
- I uninstalled all previous versions of gmail, which seemed to make it disappear and it didn't happen, but couldn't use gmail. (This also seems to have removed gmail from my app manager section, but since moved gmail back to home screen and logged in and the problem came back, but still not seeing it in app manager).
- I did root the phone awhile back, but had so many problems, so it is not rooted anymore.
- It is a Samsung G S3
- I see this forum is all things root, so sorry if in the wrong spot, but I see no option for non-rooted ones.

Thank you in advance for your hlelp. I hate this phone because of this problem and am not finding others with this issue online, so must be a setting or something...right?
