Verizon Going With Tiered Data.

So if we already have unlimited, do we have to switch to tiered when it arrives? I know AT&T let their customers with unlimited keep it.

You should be grandfathered in. If they make you change, that's a legal change to your contract and you can leave without an early termination fee.

That's so fing dumb!!

Tierd data is something for a uncapible failure of a network such as att.

I will be REALLY dissapointed if they do.

we'll be grandfathered in until we upgrade our phone and sign a new contract right?

2GB sucks...I don't consider myself a heavy user and I used 3.5GB one month. This may have been when I was trying to download ROMs over the air but I am not sure.

They just continue to nickel and dime us.

Tiered data is going to be the new thing, especially with 4G on the horizon, sad but true fact of life.

Why are phone data plans moving backwards? Shouldn't the trend be towards unlimited plans rather then away from them, you know like how internet plans worked

I use 3 times 2gb a month... you've got to be fricken kidding me.

Actually, if you read any of the big tech blogs from the past few years, they say the opposite.

they all say things are all going toward unlimited and eventually we will have nothing but unlimited plans.

4G is much more sustainable, therefore I believe the future will hold true unlimited data.

If you think about it, tiered data goes against technological evolution.

EDIT: If they do cap us, I'll be screwed. My usage this month was 9.7GB, last was 7.6gb, and I wasn't even tethering. -- I have no idea how I suck so much data. (the 7.6gb was when I has my Eris, too!)

ill keep my x for a while then... i wont pay more then 30 bucks....60 for me and my wife.. 40 for home 100 a month now on internet...ya thats enough 4 me

They better not try that or I will leave and go to one of the smaller companies that see, to be sticking with unlimited. I hope it doesn't come to that because they have the best network.

Ill be so upset if they do this. The last thing I should have to be on my mind while using a phone is "am I going over" then get a freaking bill that is 2 pages long expling why you went over $200

With the start of 4G bandwidth is much more limited due to less infaustructure. Companies will put these caps on, in the start, to stop "power users" hogging it and slowing it down for everyone. Verizon even had tiered data at the start of 3G and still uses it with mobile broadband cards. In the near future tiered data will be used, maybe in the bigger picture unlimited 4G will happen, at least from phones..

Hmm.. I stand corrected.

I had no facts I went on assumption lol

Good God, you use 6 Gig's per month!?!?

Meh I was hoping verizon would go limited with 4g and leave 3g unlimited. But apparently they are going to try and do what AT&T is doing. which sucks. 2 gigs is nothing for a smart phone with a capable web browser.

we better be grandfather in or im gonna freak out.

i think its only for new customer tho we all should be fine

Hoefully, two things will happen:

1) They will grandfather those of us who already have unlimited, even if we renew contracts or upgrade phones (like AT&T has done).

2) They will go back to unlimited when LTE/4G rolls out, similarly to what Sprint is doing. They limit 3G, but their 4G is unlimited.

Otherwise, what's the point of upgrading the networks if we can't use them?
