[Verizon] Google Play won't stay open after .apk install (rooted and CM 10.1 RC5)

Hey everyone. I've had my Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) for a while and the warranty just ran out so I figured I'd root it. I've rooted several phones before, but this one is giving me some trouble. I installed a few roms and settled on CM 10.1 RC5, but I noticed on each of the roms that Google Play was gone. I downloaded the 4.1.6 Google Play .apk and installed it, but when I try to open it, it looks like it's opening and then it just goes away. Under Settings>Apps, it shows that it's running. What the hell is going on here? I obviously need Google Play to get my apps back and I've kind of hit a wall here. Thanks for any and all help!

Edit: I've looked around and seen issues with gapps, which I did install an update using one of the previous roms, although Google play was missing before that.

Edit 2: Problem resolved! I downloaded gapps from CyanogenMod and flashed it. It works now

There's a gapps file you need to flash.

The play store needs a lot more than the apk to run

Edit: looks like you figured it out

Yeah, for the readers. Most ROMs require a separate 'gapps' package flash to get your Play store working properly.

This should be done right after flashing your ROM of choice and before you boot your phone back into the regular Android system.

This has been a public service announcement . . . .
