Root [Verizon] **Got Root? A List of Utilities/Roms/Kernels/(unroot/sofbricks--Post 2)***

The drivers are listed as a download in the rooting guide, or here is a link to them :
Support - Verizon Wireless Cell Phones SCH-I535 | Samsung Cell Phones

edit: ah crap..you need drivers for a mac, sorry...hold on.

By the way, I am not sure how to root on a mac. :(

ah its not a problem. I was going to do it this evening while I had some down/quiet time, but I'll wait for my room mates to get back and use one of their windows computer. Thanks for trying though appreciate it.

Andrew,

I hope someone is still reading this thread. I now have an S5, so I flashed rooted stock JB 4.1.2 on my S3 and gave it to my wife. Today she showed me it is trying to update (I forgot to freeze SDM for her). So I went to the "more info" link and learned that VZW is indeed pushing 4.4 KitKat to the S3.

:)

However, being already rooted, I am wondering if anyone knows of a rooted version of the current pushed KitKat OS that I can flash?

Looking at the options for ROMs here, I noticed mention of Safestrap. 3 days ago I would not have understood anything about that. Then I got my S5, and learned about the locked bootloader, etc. leaving Safestrap as our only current option for a custom recovery on the S5.

So did VZW also lock down the bootloader on the KitKat it is pushing to the S3? Will I need to use Safestrap on the S3 too? We've been told we can't actually use CWM or TWRP on the S5 until the bootloader (hopefully) gets unlocked. Yet I see mention of those recoveries here. Or is that here for those who are not yet using KitKat?

Am I correct in thinking the only way I could actually use their pushed KitKat version would be to go back to stock, unroot, then take the OTA?

Then I would not be able to use CWM or TWRP, just Safestrap (so no custom ROMs), right?

Like a stock, rooted KitKat rom?
I'd have to look:)

VZW locked the bootloader on 4.3 I think, thereby forcing members to root with saferoot, then install the recovery safestrap. The twrp and CWM are for those S3 members whose bootloader is still unlockable.:)
