welcome to the wonderful world of the Galaxy Nexus rcozzi yes it is that simple, our guides in the all things root thread are much more helpful, there are toolkits that allow you to do it much simpler. if you have any questions regarding it, please ask away!

Toolkits are awesome that way

If you haven't unlocked yet, make SURE you back up ALL your user data (music, movies, pics, vids, etc) to the PC BEFORE unlocking! The unlock WILL wipe your entire phone, including the internal memory. Once all your stuff is moved to the PC, unlock, root & flash the custom recovery. When you're all stable on the other side, then you can move stuff back.

I've had three Android phones, and the rooting process has been very different on each one. It just varies. Sometimes difficult. Sometimes extremely easy.
