Samsung Galaxy S5 On Verizon Getting Minor OTA Update To Add GALAXY Apps, Fingerprint Authentication For Exchange Accounts

The update takes the Verizon to build version... G900VVRU1BOD5

"Hopefully", this will take the changelist that the build is based on to around #5000000+.... a big jump from #3846539 and would bring it into line with the worldwide models and give it all the features and enhancements enjoyed by other S5 users.

I say, "Hopefully", because I am sure that not even Verizon would dare to issue a changelist #200000 or #300000 patch to that very, very, old and cr*ppy 2014 Lollipop version that they've already patched once before, without updating the Lollipop version.

I sincerely hope to God that Verizon at least learned something from the huge fiasco they created by trying to be "first on the block" with an ill timed, and poorly thought out, and inadequate testing done on it..... and that there is more to this release than just the two little tiny blurbs mentioned. Verizon never, ever, reveals all...

The customer uproar over that 1st release of 5.0 was immense, numero #1 here was the loudest to be heard in their hallways, and on the very 1st day of the release..... I literally scalded them and the Samsung Support techs during a conference call with them both on the line at the same time. They knew they had made a bad mistake, but they would not offer anyway to get it undone.

This new release, if they present it in a timely manner, I will let it go thru.... even though neither of the "so called updates" are anything that is worth having on a phone.

I definitely will NOT be allowing Microsoft to have anything to do with my phones. I do NOT trust the Fingerprint scanner either, so that is useless.

I remember back 6-10 years ago, when Verizon stubbed their toes badly, and earned an earful of my opinions as to what they had done to my phone.... without my permission, did not even allow me to be aware it would happen....
I just woke up one morning to an announcement that the phone has new software on it..... and it was broken beyond repair....... that got me a new phone.

EDIT: 8:30 PM CST
Just did a Check for Updates and this new version is not released in Oklahoma yet.

Be patient AZgl1500!

We're not talking about a Samsung release that is available immediately, en masse, through their huge worldwide servers. This is Verizon and they will stage the update over the next few days/weeks/months to their customers... if, indeed, the original link in post #1 is correct!

Oh, I'm well aware of VZW's slow approach to everything....
that is why I was so shocked when they were 1st to release 5.0 in the USA.

Some suit sitting behind a mahogany table decided to push things out before the IT folks could test it all.
We all saw and heard the result.

If there is anything to the rumor story, it will be December before we see it here on the grass land country.

Despite the millions of posts on this and other forums complaining about Verizon's own, old, ersatz, clone version of Lollipop, Verizon have decided that what their customers really wanted on their G900V phone's is... MORE BLOATWARE!

According to this Tech Times report, here...

"
The software update has the version LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOD5 and brings several novel features Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 users' way. The new features include the GALAXY Apps, where the app store will be installed automatically to your device. This is a revamped version of Samsung Apps and GALAXY Apps would possibly have a far more extensive selection when compared to Samsung Apps.

The Verizon software update for Galaxy S5 also brings support for Fingerprint Authentication for unlocking Microsoft's Exchange Accounts. This is a more useful update when compared to the above mentioned one. Thanks to the update users will be able to unlock their smartphone when their Microsoft Exchange account acts as the device administrator.

The sensor strikes a fine balance between safety and convenience and will be welcomed by users who are pro additional security features.

These are the only additional features the new software update from Verizon will bring. The minor OTA update will probably be pushed out in phases as is usually the case and may take some time to make its way to your Galaxy S5."

Verizon are spoiling their customers. First they held the title of the oldest, most out-of-date, Lollipop based S5 firmware worldwide and now they are the most carrier bloated S5 firmware worldwide.

(I think we're gonna need a bigger forum!)

Sigh! That is exactly what I mentioned in my 1st post on this "new update", er, uh, Bloatware Enhancement.
I will disable both of them immediately when or if it ever arrives on my phone... you will note the putrid color on that statement, it is quite fitting on the validity of the word "enhancement".

Verizon is slowly, but lately, much faster, pushing me down the road to Rooting my phone.
Never thought I would be having to do that, but their constant bullying the customer attitude is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth for their BS software.

yep, gonna need a bigger, wider bandwidth VZW forum

We have a saying in my country, when someone is unreasonable or takes liberties, it's called...

"Taking the piss!"

"If", this report from SamMobile is correct... that is exactly what Verizon are doing to their customers...

"The largest carrier in the US has actually released a minor update for the Galaxy S5 which retains the core OS version but makes some tweaks to the software.

Verizon is rolling out software version LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOD5 for Galaxy S5 owners on its network, the update will auto install the Galaxy Apps app store on the device as well as enable the fingerprint scanner for unlocking Microsoft Exchange accounts. That’s really all there is to this update"

Basically, what this appears to mean is that they are keeping their cr*ppy, old, original, out-of-date, heavily bloated, 2014 version of Lollipop with its lack of features, heavy battery drain and poor battery performance and are going to add even more lag creating and battery draining apps... I wonder how that will work out?

So, while other users worldwide can enjoy all the new features and performance enhancements from later Samsung Lollipop updates on their Galaxy S5's... Verizon are punishing their customers for being, well... their customers!

Make no mistake... this is nothing to do with Samsung, see #1.6 of 40 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide, this is purely a commercial decision by Verizon.

Oh, and before anyone asks... yes, this will be a Verizon forced update that you will be unable to refuse unless you root your phone.

Perhaps Verizon should issue lube to their customers before they insert the rough end of a pineapple where the sun don't shine!

(These are my opinions based on the information given and do not necessarily reflect those of Android Forums)

I think you are all being very unfair to Verizon, you know they only have their loyal customers best interests at heart, they release an update that is designed to help you all get used to your phones by spending a lot of time trying to get it running properly, they provide a reason for you to vent your frustrations, that otherwise you might vent on your nearest and dearest, and you clearly don't appreciate it. Also this type of mud slinging will be very hurtful to the 3 and 4 year olds that take all that trouble to write their software for them! Phil

philayl, how well you express my most inner most feelings about my loving, care giving, ISP, er uh, phone carrier...

The OD5 update for the Verizon model, G900V, has been released with a changelist #4782027

PDA: G900VVRU1BOD5 CSC: G900VVZW1BOD5 CHANGELIST: 4782027 BUILD DATE: 29.04.2015

Hopefully this will bring a whole host of fixes, such as Voice unlock, Mute toggle, Screen pinning, Alarm notification in silent mode, Wi-Fi and signal improvements, camera fixes, fully charged notification removed, as well as the all important performance and battery enhancements.

I'm in Oklahoma where the Wind goes Sweeping down the Plains, and so far, the wind as not carried any new updates to us yet.

Try connecting your phone via the Samsung PC suite, Kies. It seems that, unusually, this release can be had from Samsung!!!

the updates all suck beyond words, but i gues if they didnt rush them out people would be crying about how long they have to wait like usual, like the "this will be the last time i buy a samsung all this money for blah blah blah"..i downgraded mine to 4.4.4 and it works fine for me,my ntelos and sprint s5s are both on android 5 rooted and both run fine.

Not for me ... I'm running the US version of the S5 and, according to the latest Kies 3 version (which just updated), the most current firmware version is OC4.
