Root [Verizon] Nandroids and such...

There simply doesn't seem to be much info on nandroids! I was very comfortable making them when I was an EVO 4G user and I knew where they were stored and how to restore from one and so on.

My SGS3 device is rooted by way of the flash method, placed TWRP 2.2 as my recovery, plus I unlocked the bootloader. I'm sitting here thinking "...if I were to want to go to do a restore of a nandroid, I'm not certain I'd know where to look! I did discover a TWRP folder on the /mnt/extsdcard and within that is a BACKUPS folder which contains a folder "d319cbf3" then within that contains a folder "1970-01-05--22-53-53" (note: when I long-press on this folder and go to 'Properties' it states that it was modified "1979-12-31"!!!

Once I open that folder up I discover 6 files - two 'boot' files, two 'data' files and 2 'system' files. Are these my nandroid files that serve to restore the device to the earlier ROM?

Now just to clarify, that nandroid is one that I made after I rooted and switched recovery and unlocked the bootloader. I DID NOT flash a different ROM but am still using the stock ROM. I am not wanting to restore it because it is basically what I'm currently running (however, I have considered making a new nand simply because I have changed up some stuff since that one was created!). I think I have some grip on the subject but still feel that since I'm on a brand new device that there's enough difference in the way this device operates as compared to my previous EVO 4G that I would like to read more on the subject...:) sorry for the rambling but just trying to be as clear as possible! ;) Thanks for your input.

Greetings dkl1,

Running the TWP 2.2, makes nandroids as simple as possible.

You don't have to go looking for what you need to restore, the recovery program does it by itself.

If you made the nandroid with 2.2, you were given a option to name it to something that would make sense to you.

When you enter recovery, you would choose the restore option. Inside will be a list of the nandroids that you have made. (Here is where the naming option comes in handy)

Choose the one you want, and the rest is automatic.

Of course, make sure that you've wiped all the caches and stuff, before you install your nandroid.

It's really that simple.

Sounds easy enough! At the moment I don't need to restore one yet. I am not ready to flash any new ROM as I'm chillin' with this stock setup for a while, but it's good to have this info...thanks. :)
