Root [Verizon] Nervous about rooting...

Mikestony, you are an asset to the community! Seems you are really helping people out.
Just thought I'd mention an app that I love, romtoolbox pro. It let's you backup as TiB does plus it has many other functions, rebooter- reboot to recovery, regular reboot etc. It has kernel tweaker, CPU over/under clock, root browser, boot animations and much much more. This one app can replace a multitude of apps.

Well, thank you samsgun! :D And yes, I agree with the RomToolBox Pro! I have that also and use it for the Cpu tweaks and the font installer:)

Edit: heh, I have so many root apps it ain't funny:p

CleanROM looks cool, I'm gonna check that out. Cyanogen sounds buggy.

Heh, I agree..I like stable:)

Edit: just make sure that all your contacts are on your google account and if there is anything you want to save, be sure to back it up or save it because flashing most roms will wipe your data.
Also, make sure you flash it the way the op states!

On the CleanROM site it recommends doing a factory reset in Recovery...so that's a menu item and then I can just install CleanROM from my SD card? And then reload my apps?

I think also wipe cache too? If it doesn't say that, it won't hurt to do it.

But basically yes, I like to also make sure that the md5 of the download matches what is posted on the website.
If it matches, then the file is not corrupt.
Do you know what I mean?

@Mike, I knew your name looked familiar to me, you helped me out on xda Verizon gs3 rooting thread...lol

Cool! I do pop in there every so often. Not as much as here, but sometimes. Glad I could help! :)

I see the MD5 on the website...how do I check it on the zip file?

MD5--
Alot of rom downloads/mod downloads/theme downloads will post an md5 on the download page.
It is a long string of numbers and letters.
After you download it to your phone, you can check the md5 of your download.
If it matches what is posted on the download site, then the file is clean.
To check the md5 of your download that is on your phone, you can use a file explorer such as
ES File explorer or Root Explorer.
Open the file explorer app. Find the rom.zip download. Long press on it.
Select "properties". Then I think you have the option to "show checksum" (md5 checksum that is)
And it will take a few seconds to generate it. Then just double check they match.
If so, PRESTO! Clean download ready to flash!!

I gotta go now, but I'll be on later tonight my friend:)

Okay, I'm totally up and running with CleanROM, restored apps...is there a CleanROM settings menu for customizing stuff or would that be other downloads?

I'd like some CPU controls (preferably ones that will let me speed up and save battery without allowing me to do something stupid), a way to disable some of the sounds, and possibly a lockscreen mod.

I'm slowly working on a thread to post in here of useful apps/mods/themes etc. So check back in a while for it and I will continue to add to it.
But, for the time being, as far as CPU tweaks, not a whole lot you can do with the included kernel but you can underclock a little more by using rom toolbox. I also set my sd card read ahead speed to 2048. It's more useful when playing games I think, but I don't game at all:p
And any interesting tricks you suggest playing with :-)
This look very tempting to try soon for me:

Hey Mike, have you ever used V6 supercharger?
I've seen a lot of people using it in the vibrant threads and others say its worthless. Just curious if you have ever tried it and what your thoughts are on it.

I've looked into it when i had my Evo, but not on this device yet. Link?

I'm finding that I get gmail notifications, but when I click the app it hasn't updated...any idea what that is?

In the course of flashing and playing the last few days, I've seen gmail mail set to not auto sync, look in setting, account sync stuff and see if it's un-checked.
No idea why it isn't by default.

Just another option, is Synergy JB r290, I've been running Synergy since tbolt days and has some really nice features. Not taking anything away from CleanRom, just suits my taste better.
If interested google xda-developers fourm and s3 . It is now multi carrier.
Number one rule is read, read, read as stated before by others, we say it because it would suck to have a $600.00 paperweight. ;-)
I don't think you will ever want to go back to lock stock bloated again. lol :)
