VERIZON Nexus 6P Q&A

What is everyone doing about Verizon voicemail? I had "premium" visual voicemail, but obviously that doesn't work, and they dumbed me down to basic visual voicemail, but I'm not sure that's working either.

Since this thread has become a clearing house for Verizon-based 6P experiences, I thought I'd toss this tidbit out there. It surprised me the other day when I was on the phone with my girlfriend and she asked me how long it would take me to get across town to her house. I pulled my shiny Nexus 6P away from my ear to check traffic... and I couldn't do it. Then yesterday I was using my 6P as a hotspot for my tablet, and when I got a phone call, my data cut off.

Had I done some research I would've known about this beforehand. It's not a deal breaker for me, but I'm going to miss that functionality. Apparently, you can turn on "Advanced Calling 1.0" for simultaneous data and voice. I'm not sure if I'm going to turn on the feature, as there are some performance trade-offs like calls dropping if you go from LTE service to 3g service. Most of my info came from the reddit thread:

Wow. This could be a deal killer for me. I'm surprised this isn't getting a lot of attention. Thanks for the heads up, otherwise I wouldn't have known about it.

I wonder if there's any chance of getting this resolved? I'm not a power Android user. Need to look into Advanced Calling.

The 6P works fine...
VVM and video calling don't work.
You can use Google Voice for VM is you really want VVM.
You can use Skype or whatever for video calling.

Took the SIM out of my LG G3 and trimmed it.
Dropped it into my 6P. No issues.
 
I think the question above was about using voice and data simultaneously. The scenario was talking on the phone while checking traffic, presumably in a web browser or possibly an app. Can anyone with a 6P on VZW verify whether you can use voice and data simultaneously?

So, I went ahead and turned on Advanced Calling 1.0 and now I can get simultaneous voice and data. While I was on a phone call (to my other phone), I checked traffic, went to Amazon.com, and did a speed test... I performed the speed test because data felt a little sluggish, and I wanted to see if the sluggishness was a result of simultaneous voice/data or if the sluggishness was the result of coverage.
  • Speeds while on a phone call were 1.63 Mbps down and 0.03 Mbps up
  • Speeds after I hung up were 2.02 Mbps down and 0.03 Mbps up.
My personal conclusion is that the sluggishness was a coverage issue. My office building must be made of adamantium and mithril, because I've always had crappy LTE coverage inside. So I'm not surprised by the slow data speeds... it's always this slow at work, and I mostly stick to the wifi service here.

This was a 10 minute experiment, and didn't cover all the bases. How is call quality on Advanced Calling 1.0? What is the drop call drop rate? Does Advanced Calling 1.0 really drop when the phone moves from LTE coverage to 3G CDMA? If I had better coverage, would there be a noticeable decline in data speeds?

I'll leave Advanced Calling 1.0 on for a week or so and see what happens. I can report back if anyone is interested.
