Root [Verizon] Overclocking the S3

HaloGod

Newbie
Is it possible to over clock the CPU yet? I see the incredible 4g with the same chipset can now be overclocked to 1.8ghz and the international version of the s3 can also, what about the US version?

No, if you have root you can go to the market and download

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ult#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5tbW1lZmYuZXoiXQ..

Flash the included invisablek kernel, and reboot recovery. Now you can use your choice of overclocking app to overclock. [Warning, this will overwrite your custom recovery (CWM, TWRP)]

Problem is that if you reboot normally, you'll go back to the stock kernel and lose the ability to overclock, so just be aware of that. (You can just reboot recovery again to get it back.)

are there instructions somewhere on these forums on how i should root the S3 and how to flash this kernal so i can OC? i know there are many ways to root and im not sure which way to do it for this phone. Thanks!

Easy instructions to root are on xda. Once rooted, there is a free app on the market that can flash different recovery images and also invisiblek's kernel.

Okay so I'm going to root my phone using Odin, after I will download the app on the market and flash to the invisiblek v2 kernel, after I should be able to over clock using any app past the stock 1.5ghz? Also the app gives me an option to reboot recovery or flash, what's the difference?

You have to flash one of the alternate recoveries first, then you can reboot to recovery. If you choose reboot to recovery before flashing an alternate recovery, you will end up in the stock recovery.

FYI, it is recommended that you do the flash recovery twice just to be sure the image was flashed successfully. It probably isn't needed, but it will save you some grief in case the recovery image didn't successfully "stick".

It sounds like CVPCS (spelling?) has got a hack going that will always boot the custom kernel, and will simply do a second reboot into recovery if it attempts to boot to the stock kernel.

Just as a question, why are you looking to overclock? I understand WHY people overclock (And have done so on every previous Android phone I've owned), I'm just curious as to what you're running that is slow right now. Or are you just looking to get higher benchmark scores?

for benchmarking and some cpu intensive games like real racing 2, plus im a pc gamer so overclocking is in my blood. Looks like i get worse benchmarks scores when i have the min at 384 and max at 1890mhz. However having the min and max at 1890 i get about 800 points higher in quadrant, the cpu, ram, IO, and 3d have jumped a good amount
