[Verizon] Phone keeps thinking it's plugged in when it's not

Had my phone since launch. It's rooted and running LiquidSmooth JB Beta 2, with leankernel.

That's all been constant for over a week now. Then today it started going wonky, it keeps thinking that it is plugged in when it's not. Occasionally it flips back and forth rapidly from Discharging to Charging which results in the screen being stuck on... otherwise it sticks on charging.

Would this be a hardware thing or a software thing? I'm stumped.

Plugged in I'm fine, it properly shows charging all the time. I really don't want to deal with my warranty or Verizon because I don't want to bother resetting it to default.

The times I've seen this happen it was always the microusb port on the phone. Try blowing in the port and also VERY gently try lifting the little " tongue " with a toothpick or a very small screwdriver. If you decide to use the screwdriver make sure the battery is pulled out of the phone. Remember be very gentle.

That seems to have corrected it, the screwdriver I mean. Sadly compressed air didn't do it.

I've had problems with my phone saying "Not charging" instead of discharging in the past, so I guess I finally know what that was all about.

Hopefully this fix lasts. Thanks for the advice.

I'm glad it worked for you... I see this problem a lot when repairing phones... Eventually you will have to replace it... But it might last a while.

Had this same issue last month, the usb port melted a week after it started. I would reset it and return it to the store.
