Root [Verizon] Please help?! SuperSU and Superuser partial install

I have a Verizon Galaxy S5. I've always been afraid to root, but I hate TouchWiz and bloatware so much that I had to try. I'm regretting it.

I just used towelroot and tried to install SuperSU, Titanium Backup, and Wanam Xposed. I tried to research as much as I could, but it's still all new to me.

I first tried to install SuperSU. I wasn't totally sure what to do when it said "Try to disable KNOX? - Cancel or OK".

Someone suggested that I tap OK and disable KNOX. The screen has said "Disabling KNOX..." with a spinning circle thing for at least 5 minutes now. After 10+ minutes of waiting, I closed SuperSU. I downloaded Superuser to try it instead (per someone's suggestion). I tapped it and it immediately opened. It didn't ask about installing or anything. I thought it would need to replace the su binary. It feels like I have a messed up mix of half-installed root software.

Now I just want to undo all this and go back to an unrooted phone. Can anyone help me do that?

Hey there. I don't have any Samsung experience but I moved your thread over to the S5 - All things root section where I think you'll get the best help.

Good luck!!

I'll PM one of the guides that has this device. Hopefully he can get you squared away! :)

did you flash a custom recovery?

if not, you should be able to go into the options of superSU and click unroot or somthing towards that point then uninstall superSU then reboot

that will unroot your phone :)
good luck!

ps. if you still want root, and just feel you messed up... just ask and we can get you rolling properly :)

I did not flash a custom recovery. Also, I eventually opened SuperSU and it detected that another superuser was installed. It asked me if I wanted to uninstall, so I did (hoping to start cleaning up the mess. It did seem to uninstall Superuser.).

Now, SuperSU always asks if I want to disable KNOX. I have been always tapping "Cancel".

So, I think my phone is back to being rooted with SuperSU only and KNOX still enabled.

Can you help me proceed from here? My goal was to get as close to pure vanilla Android as possible.

Originally, I was told that Verizon S5 is not able to use Custom ROM / Recovery. Is that still true?

Thank you!

im on boost mobile, so i dont really follow "closely" to Verizon's but i know they just found out how to root a couple weeks back so im sure if they dont yet they will eventually have a custom recovery and custom roms and finally vanilla android roms... it will be a waiting process...

what is your phone model number (such as boost is SM-G900P) ?
do a serch with your model # for recovery... or check out this thread to see if you might be listed in there [RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL] TWRP for the Samsung Galaxy S5 - xda-developers

well i just checked it said its a no go in the opening post... but check in there from time to time to see whats new

as for now you're not going to get vanilla... but i would stay rooted and don't mess with Knox until you have some type of backup, get titanium backup, and you can freeze a couple bloat apps from running... you don't have recovery so that means you don't have a backup in case something goes wrong!!!!! BE CAREFUL with what you do!!!!

I am getting conflicting advice on whether SuperSU should be installed at all. Someone is saying that towelroot will approve everything and SuperSU is just if I want to monitor what is installed.

and if I can do without it,The Play Store is where I got SuperSU. It says that it cannot be simply uninstalled and it needs a replacement su binary instead. Do you know anything about that?

If you want to use any root apps you will need to have a su app installed!

I don't know too much about towelroot but to my knowledge it is only used to gain an access point for root, once that access point is made towelroot is no longer needed or used. After the initial use of towelroot you will need to download/install a su app, I prefer SuperSU... SuperSU and superuser can not be used/installed at the same time, you must choose one. If one was installed and then you installed the other the newer app once ran will ask to fix/update the su binaries, this needs be done. After fixing the binaries I suggest uninstalling the unused/prior app.

Other people have said that towelroot automatically provides root privileges to everything, so SuperUS is not needed. But most people keep telling me to install it anyway.

I thought it was strange that Superuser didn't prompt me to install anything or update any binary, etc., since I installed it after SuperSU. It just opened and didn't really seem to do anything. Then, once I opened SuperSU again, it detected Superuser and asked if I wanted to uninstall it, which I did. (I mentioned it above)

i cant deny that nor confirm it, i just don't know towelroot like that. i use SuperSU, so for me i would save the towelroot app on my sdcard for safe keeping and ininstall it, and just use SuperSU (BUT THAT'S JUST ME, due to my lack of knowledge)

it sounds like your good to go...
maybe confirm everything is working by getting a app that need root and see if SuperSU asks you if you want to allow it to gain root permissions, if it does everything is good to go :D

SuperSU does ask for permission. However, every time I open SuperSU, it asks if I want to disable KNOX. Since my Verizon S5 can't have a custom recovery, I don't want to disable KNOX (plus last time I tapped "OK", it got stuck "Disabling KNOX...").

i would not disable KNOX yet... wait for others with you specific device model (from verison)

once SuperSU is ran the first time, you will not need to go back into it (unless you want to) it will just run in the background when an app calls for root permission.

Disabling Knox is fine. It is suggested each time you install SuperSU, it does nothing to your Knox counter when you disable it :)
