Verizon Question

I bought my Galaxy Nexus on launch day (12/15?) using an upgrade from another line on my family plan. My line's contract is expiring in a couple of months (August 2012). I'm VERY happy with my Nexus besides battery life, so no need for an upgrade at this point. (I played with verizon version S3 over the weekend utilizing some samsung connections and battery life was AWESOME.) I like Nexus's stock ICS with AOKP rom, but I'm also sure there will be heavy development around GS3.

Now, I just realized that Verizon is killing unlimited data this summer, which I have with my Nexus. My understanding is they will take away my unlimited data when I upgrade next year or so, or even before, since my contract is up this August. The max time frame I could utilize would be to upgrade to S3 now and have it guaranteed to extend 2 more years. I rarely use up 2GB a month, but that's mainly because I try to use wifi as much as possible due to battery drain. I do go over 3GB sometimes.

What would be the most logical thing to do? We have 3 smart phones and 1 feature phone on verizon family plan with quite nice employer discount. It wouldn't be ideal for me to move on to ATT or something else just because their plans are cheaper.

Should I upgrade my line to GS3 and sell my Nexus on Ebay or Craigslist? I won't be making much. I think the price runs between $250-300 for used (mint condition) and GS3 will cost close to $200 for me - I do have NE2 $50 discount + $30 upgrade fee + tax + 16GB SD card upgrade.

What would you guys do? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I moved this to the Verizon forum, as it's more a carrier/service question than a phone specific one. Thanks for understanding. :)

Is your contract up in August (which means you are eligible now for upgrade) or is your upgrade become available then? I don't know if VZW will wait till august to end the unlimited grandfathering is why I'm asking.

None of this is official and nobody knows when it will happen. So, my advice is to not worry about it yet.

Actually Verizon has confirmed this is happening, but you are correct that no timeline has been established.

Yes but it will be such a bummer if they take away my unlimited plan sometime later this year when my Nexus is only a year old...

Well they won't take it away until you try to use the upgrade on your line.
