[Verizon] ROM/Theme/Kernel Flashing Baby Step Tutorial?

gapi

I just rooted and have been messing with apps but need a tutorial and FAQ on Flashing ROM's/Themes/Kernels.

I need the baby step thing.

I have read on some ROM developer instructions to wipe first?
Will this take out my ROM Manager backups and Titanium backups?

I liked the unlock and root tutorial here but cannot seem to find what I need like that to move forward.

Check out SA's post here http://androidforums.com/verizon-ga...gs-root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html#rom-install

That is the basics on how to flash a rom. Wiping in recovery will not wipe your SD card so have no fears there. I would suggest moving nandroid backup files to the cloud or your CPU since they can take up a lot of room.

Generally for roms you will wipe /data, cache, dalvik, and /system (some people don't say /system wipe is needed but I always wipe it)

For a theme/kernel you will wipe cache and dalvik but not /data or /system.

You may also want to wipe battery stats in recovery for rom and kernel flashes.

I hope that clears it up for you, if it doesn't I can try to be more clear.

Also verify your downloads by checking the MD5 of any rom/kernel/theme you download BEFORE you flash them on your phone.

Thanks, I have Astro and it will do it. I also have rootexplorer but not sure itf it has it.
I have ued Astro's feature. I believe a long press and the check sum option is listed.
