Root [Verizon] Root on kitkat

I dont planning changing ROMs since i like the LG rom, so my question is since im keeping the original rom do i really need to install custom recovery with ioroot25 and do i really need to backup the efs?
 
I have rooted all my other phones so i do understand the custom recovery. just thought i read somewhere that i dont need to install one if im not changing roms.
 
I don't have your device, so I can't tell you if root is available, but I will say having a custom recovery is generally recommended. If nothing else, at least for nandroid backups
 
custom recovery is not needed for anything unless you plan on changing roms..or flashing new radios (this is where EFS backups are needed) ... however root is still desireable since its required for apps like titanium backup (which makes it MUCH easier if you have to FDR), among many other root required apps including a lot of tweak apps like Xposed

so at the very least I recommend root (and yes root is available via ioroot25)..... but thats depending upon how much extra effort you put into changing your phone........custom recovery however will be useless to you unless youre planning on swapping roms

I'm slightly confused about the need for EFS backup in ioroot 25. I want to root my VS98024A (Kitkat 4.42), but keep stock recovery: Don't plan on flashing ROMs, just using a few root apps, and maybe Xposed. So do I need to type the additional commands to backup EFS or am I safe without them? The instructions in ioroot 25 vs 21 seem contradictory.

EFS Back up is something that I believe Ioroot 25 does just as a procaution even though I to might have read it wrong. I did a root for the kitkat lg g2 verizon verison and it worked wonders.
 
Early G2's had an issue with losing EFS, the encrypted area of the file system where your IMEI and country settings are located, especially in early international variants. It is a good idea to maintain a backup, although not necessary, where it could come into play is if you accidently flashed a ROM for a different variant, it could corrupt the EFS partition.

It is possible for other issues to corrupt the EFS partition... Early on I was running a custom ROM and looked down at my phone and it showed I was always roaming for some reason... nothing I did would correct it, restored EFS and all was well again.

out of curiousity doesn the complete out of the box restore (.tot) flash restore the efs?
 
This is probably the wrong place for this but, I'm not having any luck with my new VS98024 getting it to root. The USB driver appears to be installed fine on my Windows 7 machine and I can see the phone for MTP; but ioroot25 says the phone is not connected. I've made sure it's in internet/Ethernet mode. I'm at a loss... anybody have any ideas?
 
no actually it has to be connected to the ethernet mode.

Here is the steps:

Download Ioroot 25
plug phone to computer
set phone to ethernet (verizon only)
then open ioroot 25 and begin.

I've done that and keep getting a message from ioroot25 that the phone isn't connected and I should try unplugging and plugging it back in again, which doesn't work; nothing happens when I do that. I've tried it on two different computers running Windows 7. Anybody else have this problem?
