Root [Verizon] rooting question

I have a question. If I root my phone will I be able to do updates and keep my root privs?

Yes there is a way, but I am not clear on that yet.
I usually just flash a rom with the updates baked into them

Usually if the device is rooted, without any other changes such as custom recovery, custom kernel, etc, you will be able to accept the update. However this usually removes root and require the use of an root protecting app to keep it.
