1. Manufacturer - Samsung

3. Software version - 4.4.2; G900VVRU1ANE9
4. Specifics of the problem - phone will not remember my WPA2-PSK password, more detail below
5. Specify if the phone is rooted. Yes, rooted
6. Kernel version - 3.4.0-964333

After I rooted (2 days after getting the phone in mid-May, to avoid any forced OTA upgrades), the phone wouldn't remember the wifi password after a reboot or power off / power on cycle -- so, I avoided turning off the phone or rebooting if not necessary. not an elegant fix, but it worked.
Yesterday I was following along a thread here, and was looking to see exactly what the posters were describing, and I changed something, in the Settings menu of Wifi (Wifi in the main settings area), possbily the WPS push button or WPS PIN entry... Now, I don't need to power off or reboot for the phone to not remember the password, all I have to do is turn off wifi; to re-connect, I need to supply the password again. I've gone from bad to worse here...

I'm open to suggestions; I'd prefer to avoid a factory reset if I can, since it's a PITA. I have TiBU Pro, and did a full backup after rooting, so if there is an app/data I can restore, I should have it. I also have the relevant .tar.md5 files for this phone, from sammobile, if anything there would be needed.

Thanks, Rick

Do you have your phone set to connect via WPS? If I recall, WPS bypasses the WPA password for a device-supplied PIN. Try first disabling WPS mode and then going to settings>wifi and forgetting your home network by long-pressing the SSID and choosing forget.

Then reboot both your phone and your router and see if that clears it up.

following your suggestion, I've gotten back to the point where if I log on to my router, and then turn off / turn on wifi, it'll remember my password and connect me. If I reboot, though, I still need to re-enter my password. this is progress, thnx for your help.

Hmmm, besides rooting, have you made any other modifications? It sounds like the password isn't being saved to the system partition, only in active memory.

Score! Oops, sorry World Cup mania <g>

The 2 files that allow OTA updating have been frozen by TiBU

Score, again!!

But nothing else

My experience with Verizon is that you can refuse them for a while but ultimately they are implemented even without your agreement/acceptance. I'll see if I can find info about blocking OTA updates.

ditto.... on Verizon, you have NO CHOICE. you can tell it no for a few times, then at some point, it will be forced on you.
been there, had that T-shirt.
