So I was getting the screeching noise on my Verizon GN3 and nothing seemed to alleviate it. I spent time with Samsung live chat support, the local Verizon store and Verizon phone support and we tried everything we could think of but the call quality was still not great.
At first Verizon kept saying they didn't have any reports about this issue but after a couple days Tier 2 support checked there internal blog and said the reports are starting to come in and that they (like Sprint) were reaching out to Samsung for a solution. So that is good.
If you have Verizon and get this issue please call them and make it known. The more people that report it, the quicker a solution will be found.
I ended up getting a new phone, another white one. The button is much better than the original, not as loose but still not perfectly tight. The call quality seems a little better but not perfect. So I'll keep this one and hope for a quick OTA fix to come out.
