[Verizon] Simm Card Death (Says Verizon Tech)

gapi

Android Expert
I lost the ability to have data. After a call with Verizon techs they proclaim my Simm card is has failed.

They told me I could pic one up at the store or have it mailed. I'll be there in the AM.

I was flashing Kernels when it happened.

So I did the How To UnRoot/Relock method posted by DroidLife and she is back to factory and still no data. I hope its just the Simm. Hell a new one will be good too.

Ugh!

That's definitely interesting. Let us know if the problem gets fixed!

It was that ole fart geezer bar burnt it out with that super huge bright green 3G icon :p

Hope you get it resolved soon maybe with the new sim you'll get 4G more often than you previously do!

Well I got up this AM and see the 3G icon. I tell ya it would not show yesterday. I called two friends to make sure it was not network probs.
I was on the phone with the reps of two tiers for a total of 45 minutes. They said a new simm is free, do you want it shipped or make a pick up? I'm going to pick one up if they will give it to me without the phone in hand.. After all FedEx was just gonna plop it on my door. I want to keep it in reserve.
I'll tell you how they act at the V-Store later today.

I am running a ROM restore now.

That would be a nice comparison to make. These store guys here are very uppity. I hate going in there. I can see it now, "Sir, do you have the old card?" No, thay told me I could pick one up, see my account notes. "Yes sir I see that, do you have the phone with you. No, Gimme the card" etc.......

I've heard of this happening on the TB as well, I don't think it has to do with rooting/flashing at all ;) I think it has more to do with this being an LTE phone  likely something we will just have to live with.

OK, The Rundown,

  • Phone stops getting data.
  • Call my Verizon neighbors and they all have data, A Droid-X, Driod2, and a T-bolt.
  • Call Verizon and work through two levels of Techs and come to new Sim needed conclusion.
  • Get option to mail it or go to store. I say store.
  • Go to bed.
  • Wake up, look at phone and see a 3G. Connect to internet.:)
  • Re-Root phone. M3/Lean 1.6.6exp3.
  • Go into store without the phone on me. Store says no card leaves the property without being activated.
  • I ask, "Is the FedEx driver going to activate my card?" No. But for a card to depart from our inventory is has to be activated. I say OK, I understand now, I don't have the phone with me bye.
  • Call Verizon and one is on the way. :)
  • Drive into Atlanta and enjoy great 4G. Now still back on 4.0.2 Radios the phone seems to run 50% cooler than doing the same run on the 4.0.3 Radios. The top rear portion of the phone is what gets warm. The battery area is ambient. This is always plugged into a 2A source.
Now, I dunno what happened to my data but I want a backup Sim and want to compare the 1/14/2012 Sim against the new one.

So I am going the mailer route. I hope the envelope does not have a put the old one in here and send it back provision.

I need to stay out of the store anyway. I left my mark in there when I purchased the phone I told the guy I am an investigator and for security integrity purposes to please not to leave my sight with the phone. :). He was trying to duck into the back with it.
I then asked what he has to do back there that he cannot do in front of me and HE HAD NO ANSWER! He balked and said "Activate it." I let him off the hook and just said, "Yeh - Sure". Thank You.

Why in the world would they need to duck into the back with your phone? It was one thing once upon a time when they'd take it back there to transfer numbers for you, but a) with the advent of smartphones that's totally unnecessary and b) those little machines ahve been portable for years now!

I don't know, I ordered my GNex from Amazon, and bought my Droid X at a Best Buy in VT where they handed it to me and let me do my thing. When I worked at Best Buy later down here we were told to always offer to set it up, but not to push it if the person knew what they were doing. I spent many an hour on that hard little bench with somebody's grandmother teaching her how to use her new phone, but if someone wanted to do it themselves, I sure as hell wouldn't argue.

Gotta check to see if you have any "good" pics or videos they wouldn't mind getting a copy of ;)

Take in a phone with a pic of your bare chest and see if it can start trending on Twitter

Adjusts tinfoil hat :p

Could have been the 4.0.3 radios. I had a lot of problems with them staying disconnected and giving me no bars, even sometimes after a reset or two. I went back to the old radios. Now I'm on the 4.0.4 radios and everything is still great
