Root [Verizon] SOLVED: TWRP cannot find backup

I just exchanged my GS3 for a new one. I had TWRP backups on my external SD card that was in my old phone. I copied all the SD card files to a new, bigger (32GB) SD card and I can see them. I put the new SD card in the new phone. I tried to use TWRP to restore a backup from the new SD card, but even though I've selected the "external SD card" option, TWRP doesn't see the backup. I've verified there is a TWRP folder on the SD card. What am I doing wrong? My objective here is to restore the TWRP backup from my old SD card to the new phone. Thanks.

UPDATE: I tried putting the old SD card in the new phone and TWRP can't find the backup on the old SD card either. This is all with the latest TWRP installed from GooManager. I wish there were some way for me to navigate in TWRP to the TWRP directory so I could select the backup to restore.

SOLVED: "if you run a nandroid backup on the new phone, compare the numbers for that backup with the numbers for the old backup you want to restore. they will be different numbers. i had this issue before and changing the numbers from the old backup to the same numbers of the new backup fixed the problem. then TWRP will see the nandroid for you to restore. the folder inside "TWRP" then the folder inside "BACKUPS" that is the folder you want to rename. it will be a number like.....mine is 9202f5d1. thats the number specific to that exact phone. good luck. "
 
That's good, I guess. I would have just let the twerp do without the backup. He's the one who lost it.

Just sayin'.
 
Really awesome...!! I was scared that i cant backup.. but this solution helped me ..

NOTE: You should always keep your backup ROM in same folder structure
TWRP -> BACKUPS-> [some number] -> ROMName
example:
/external_sd/TWRP/BACKUPS/d3b65680/2015-05-09--06-31-54_KTU84P/

If you rename the backup folder dont worry.. you can get the path from Recovery.log file in your ROM
example: Last line of log file
/external_sd/TWRP/BACKUPS/d3b65680/2015-05-09--06-31-54_KTU84P/recovery.log

That "some number" is your phones serial number. To keep a backup from a previous phone, you must change that number to the serial number of your new phone.

I'm about to try this right now. GG TWRP if this is truly the only way to get this to work.
 
Thornev...And another BIG thanks for posting this! I was getting so frustrated trying to Nandroid restore and no backups were found. Your tip worked great and I've added it to my list of tips and settings for my android phone. (Currently Note 5) You're my hero!
