Root [Verizon] Sorry, but newbie question

WilburNJ

Newbie
I have a Verizon S3 and have been waiting for the carrier to turn on the GSM radio to make it a world phone.

If I root my phone per some of the suggestions here, will I have a completely unlocked phone? Meaning, can I grab a GSM prepaid sim card in Europe and have a fully operational device (not LTE, but 3G)? Can I even insert a SIM from a US GSM carrier like AT&T or T-Mobile?

Thanks much,

Will

Oh well, that's too bad. The VZW version of the iPhone 5 comes fully unlocked. I wish VZW would allow the GS3 to be unlocked in the same way. (Or maybe that's a Samsung decision?)

I travel a lot and my GS3 is my personal phone. I wish I could use it abroad. Right now, I need to rely on my work phone when abroad (presently a T-Mobile blackberry, soon to be replaced by an ATT iPhone 5), but I'd rather always use my GS3.

Anyway, thanks for your quick response.
