[Verizon] Support Power Button

Namrak

Android Expert
I've been having issues all day with my power button. It won't work unless I press on it really hard. Up until last night it was working fine with a normal click, but ever since I woke up this morning its been giving me these problems.

Its not that it is sporadic or anything. I am able to consistently use the button when always pressing down really hard. The thing is it used to work normally until I went to sleep last night.

Any suggestions? I am unlocked and rooted. Is it a hardware or software issue? Fixes? Thanks!

Sounds like hardware failure. I would suggest unroot and locking so when it finally fails completely you can get a warranty replacement without any issues.

You could also look at apps like widget locker which I believe supports volume keys to wake the phone.

Is it making the tactile click that it's supposed to make? Has yours always had this click in the past?

Yeah it is and always has made the click. Just now to get it to work I have to press Much harder.

Edit: guess I'll start doing the necessary wipes....

So does it do this when turning the screen off or when long pressing it while on to bring up power menu?

Do you have any trouble using it to "select" options while in CWM?

Yup, does it when regular pressing, long pressing, and in CWM. I sprinkled a few drops of water on the screen yesterday to clean it, but not nearly enough to do any damage. I guess I'll keep it in rice tonight just to make sure :/

If that doesn't work guess I'll unroot, relock, and call vzw for my replacement

I don't know if they will give a replacement if it still "works" even if you have to use excessive force to make it work. Just something to keep in mind.

Just a tip and not saying the two were related but I would suggest using a microfiber cloth or a lint free rag (both dry) to clean the screen of the phone in the future ;)

If it's wonky now, it will be gone shortly, same thing happened to my volume rocker. volume up works but volume down is gone. Started off having to press hard, now it won't work at all. I'm out of my 30 days so I think I'm screwed and will have to use the insurance and probably get a refurb.

What 30 days? You should be able to get a warranty replacement for at least a year

Warranty replacement as in free? or the Assurion insurance? The 30 days I was referring to was the Verizon return period. The extended holiday return period.

Is the process the same for a warranty replacement?

Yeah a warranty replacement shouldn't cost you anything other than your time. Once it fails then contact VZW to get the phone replaced. Hardware failure shouldn't make you file a claim

My refurb is on the way! Hope its not worse than my original...I've heard about a LOT of gnexes with screen problems...

Did you call or go in the store?

Call. Make sure you try a reset, battery pull, and factory reset before calling or they'll ask you to try those options first. Also, try to call from another phone as they'll try to do the normal troubleshooting with you over the phone. Also make sure to ask for someone in the "warranty/replacements" dept, or whatever its called
