Root [Verizon] TWRP Can't Find .Zip

I recently switched to TWRP for flashing and it's acting weird.

No matter where I put the .zip for the ROM it seems invisible to TWRP.

Here's what I do:
  • Put the zip in some folder
  • Fire up Rom Manager and select "Install from SD"
  • Rom manager asks for the location and I point to "here"
  • Phone (Galaxy S3) reboots into TWRP
  • TWRP asks "okay, where's your zip?"

I can look in the "Storage: Internal Storage" or "Micro SDCard" or even USB-OTG (whatever that is)

But no matter where I put the zip TWRP doesn't see many of the folders I have nor the .zip file (even if I put it in the root directory).

Selecting "MicroSD" only shows a handfull of my actual directories and even if I put the zip in one of them its still invisible.

If I knew how go back to plain old Clockwork Mod I'd do that but Rom Manager is now wedded to TWRP.

Are u on a 4.2 rom mate?
Synergy 4.1.2 R443.
There's an updated 4.1.2 from Team Synergy (a rom I really like).

At one point I did flash a 4.2 (was it Liquid Smooth? Not sure). Went back to Synergy 4.1.X (That 4.2 flash did leave behind the /0 directory). I moved most of the contents of that out but looking at it now I do see a TWRP and a Clockwork Mod directory there. The TWRP directory only has a BACKUPS folder.

stop trying to use rom manager there are a lot of horror stories for that app. put the rom on of your sd card and boot in to recovery manually. now flash

Aargh. Manually booting into Recovery with the three-fingered salute (android version) seems to launch TWRP.

Ca va.

I re-installed ClockworkMod and that's doing the job.

I've read several threads that suggested that TWRP was the better way to go. Maybe not. (As they say, Your mileage may vary.)

I have used CWM for years and recently changed to TWRP and love it. No problem flashing at all. I do have an App called Quick Boot that is just a touch away from booting into Recovery or Download mode without using the 3 finger salute.

I too have been using TWRP forever and love it. When I want to boot into recovery, I simply hold down the power button which brings up a window that has three or four options, one of which is reboot to recovery. Pretty simple.

My experience with CWM had been nearly the mirror of what you are having with TWRP! One or two of the sages from the HTC EVO 4G forum highly recommended NOT using CWM because of known failures and other issues but recommended using another recovery called Amon-ra (I believe) so I have always followed that advice and it has never let me down.

I think what it does is it teachers you to better understand what's going on "under-the-hood" more so than simply going thru a third-party app to flash, wipe, or whatever. I believe you will come to like using it if you get rid of CWM! :) That's simply my two pesos :p

EDIT: BTW, TWRP is all touch interface. The three-finger solute is indeed a thing of the distant past!
