Root [Verizon] Unable to update new version of Kitkat...

NSDroid

Newbie
Hello all, I recently started getting update messages for the OS. I have a Galaxy S5 on Verizon, I'm rooted and running Safestrap in disabled mode. Seems like the OS won't update. When I allow the update to start, the phone restarts, I get the android robot and after about 30 seconds it errors out with the android falling on His back. Does anyone know what I should be doing differently to get this update?

I'm unfamiliar with the s5, but do you have the custom recovery or stock recovery in place?

Reason being, if you want to take an update, you need the stock recovery otherwise you'll get an error every time you try to install the update.

I've also moved this into the s5 root forum.

I moved your thread to "Verizon's all things root" section :)

your issue is because you are rooted... you will need to be stock by removing root and probably the safestrap recovery (i don't follow Verizon as much so I'm not 100% sure about safstrap)

If this is the OTA that came out within the past week, you don't want it. It breaks towelroot. I don't think anyone has found a solid "official" statement about its intent, but circumstantially it appears this OTA was pushed to close the exploit towelroot uses. Other than that, there seems to be little more than bug fixes.
