Verizon

So i am considering the Nexus 6 or the Note 4 Dev edition. I have wugfreshed my Galaxy Nexus for years, it was very easy to do. But I am far from a expert at rooting and hacking, again wugfresh was like 1 button romming :) So, I love the Note 4 but yearn for a more pure Android experience. My mom's Note 3 is so bloated with samsung crap it is unbelievable to me, so help me understand what the future of a Dev edition Note 4 is, does that mean I can have a comparable experience to the nexus 6 and pure android goodness, does it have all the crap the regular Note 4's have or not. i am quite confused. Will romming be closer to what i experience with wugfresh or still going to be expert level stuff?

So, Nexus 6 or Note 4 dev edition, either way i am protecting unlimited data so its tthe same price to me, which is to say, alot lol

Thx!

Hey Rizzer,

As a Note 3 owner I have come to love and adore the S-pen and what it does. And I too can't stand bloat and have to have a wide-open Android device. So the Note 4 DE is my only option.

You can always use a 3rd party launcher like Apex to replace TouchWiz and that'll give you a pretty good Android experience. Unlocking and rooting will be easy - in fact, it's already achieved for the Note 4 DE. The first custom kernel is out for it.

Now it's just a matter of getting some great ROMs like Hyperdrive ported over to it and I'll be in phone nirvana :D

At the end of the day, though, YOU have to make a list of what all you need/want your device to do for you... and then pick the device that best suits YOU.

EDIT: OMG am I mad at Samsung.

I am very much ready to stop buying Samsung... only they already have my money for a Note 4 Developer Device. EXCEPT:

I just called and in the interim with their incessant bean-dippin' around my case, the Note 4 DEs are suddenly OUT OF STOCK!

So here I sit with a boxed-up Note 3 DE that they sent me, presumably on PURPOSE since the item number on the order was deliberately changed to SM-N900V instead of SM-N910V (sorry Sammy, I ain't buying a "typo" excuse as the 1 and 0 are quite a distance from each other on the keyboard and I can't imagine a keypad device operator making such an error and not double-checking it). Small consolation that Sammy DID promise a pre-paid return label for this year-old device and a courtesy overnight shipment of the Note 4 DE... IF it ever comes back in stock!

 (<---- this does not adequately convey how furious I really am right now)

Still awaiting the DEVELOPER EDITION,of the NOTE 4 that is?

Just rooted & TWRP'ed my T-Mobile variant, headed to XDA for the HYPERDRIVE treatment as we speak.......

Thanks for the tips and links!

But now they are not even taking money. I tried to back order one to replace my Note II and all they did was take my name and email.

I would have been happy to poney up the cc details but not happening.

We'll see where this goes.

Heck no!

I check multiple times a day to see if it's back in stock. Nope.

So if Samsung can't get its collective act together, I'll just hang on to what I have (which is fine, really) and get a Note 5 next year.

If it's in stock

On my sprint note 4 I was able to turn on or enable the hiden settings link to develepor options , and glad I did needed that for teathering .
Dont remember how I did it was watching a utube vid for tips and tricks on the note 4

Not to sway anyone else, but if Samsung (the phone manufacturer that can't seem to manufacture this phone) doesn't produce a note 4 DE soon, I've decided to go with the Nexus 6.

Yes, I'll miss the S-pen, MicroSD card and wide angle selfie mode (it's a cool gimmick) but at least I'll have the latest and greatest. And the closest thing I ever came to owning a Nexus was the Galaxy Nexus... and most of us know that thing's history

So it's a race... whichever one lands in my hand first wins.

I totally understand, especially since VZW has been shut-out of the NEXUS scene for some time now.
Can't go wrong w/either phone.

If you opt for the N6,you'll thoroughly enjoy the display size, had a virtually identical-sized phone in the G-FLEX myself & it was no problem carrying around as a daily driver & surprisingly was more ergonomically satisfying than most other phones I've owned.

As for the Dev Edition,I definitely see why you'd wait for that vs. the normally-aspirated version.Just loaded up the DARTHSTALKER & HYPERDRIVE ROMs on the T-Mobile variant days ago & the performance/battery improvements are more than noticeable.

Relinquish all doubts & what-ifs: GET BOTH ! :p

LOL - At this point that is betting on which lame horse will finish the marathon...

I guess we are in the same boat. I am waiting on big red to announce something for the Nex6, but am holding the N4 as a good 2nd option. I just wish the N4 could be Fastboot OEM Unlock'ed.

Is the N6 even available for VZ? I tried searching but could find a source.

TIA

If you buy from Google or Moto for full price, it is supposed to work on Verizon. (the pre-release / reviewer phones would work on Verizon, if you had an activated Verizon Nano-Sim) However Verizon has not announced sales, or formally announced that they will support the phone, or whether or not they will sell a nano-sim for a Nex6. Actually, Big Red has said exactly nothing about the Nex6.
