very annoying fake virus warning

DaneClark

Newbie
I am trying to use the Internet on my galaxy s5, and websites keep redirecting me to a really annoying fake virus warning that won't let me backspace. I'm not using Chrome or firefox, I'm just using the generic browser that came with my phone. It's really annoying me because I am suddenly unable to visit one of my favorite forums because of it

Close your browser and then go to settings>applications>all and find your browser. Tap on that and then clear the cache and data. Just to be safe, reboot your phone afterwards. If that doesn't clear it out, you might want to consider a factory reset.

It is a virus trying to download to your device do not respond to that page if you see it except to close the web browser if a different Web browser doesn't fix the issue a factory reset is a good idea

I cleared the cache. Now it redirects me to a page telling me that I won something. Clicking back makes a box pop up that has a "leave this page" option, but clicking on it sends me back two pages instead of one.

I'll try that, but I would like to point out that this fake "you won something" page looked like it was made by the same people who made that fake virus warning

EDIT-NOW that I get a better look at it, maybe it wasn't necessarily made by the same people,

These peeps know that "virus" is a countable noun? Unlike the first one.

You said you cleared the cache, but did you clear the data for the app, too? You should also delete all cookies and check your proxy settings just in case they have you redirected to fake dns. In the long run, a factory reset might be easier.

I am not uanable to answer this question .but you should delete all cookies or run any good antivirus or last option is factory restore.

I cleared the cache and all data, and it's still happening. And I really dont want to do a factory reset because my phone is full of important stuff

Check the browser's settings and delete any "home page" entry. Then go to Settings/Applications/All, force-stop the browser app, and clear cache and all data. This should stop it. If not then the factory reset is the next logical step.

I know you don't want to because of the important data on the phone, but if you back it up beforehand you won't lose anything. Regular backups also protect against accidental damage, loss etc so are highly recommended in any case.

It looks like you've been infected. I've seen some threads over at HF where they claim the infection to be installed as FUD and in some cases as a hidden system app so it can survive a factory reset.

I had same problem. Installed Malware bytes antimalware. It cured the problem. After running it, It said I had no virus, but the problem went away.
